Proposal

Hey, it's Styro. I haven't been on too often as of late. I suppose it's my own darned fault, as the current count of wikis that I edit totals somewhere around 96 trillion at this point :P

The fact that not all of our users can be editing all the time is actually the subject of this blog post. As I'm sure a lot of you know by now, it's a bit difficult to find users who both like herpetology and care to edit a wiki about it. And of the ones that you can find, most of them make two or three edits and then never show up again.

Recently, however, I came upon this thing called the Global Wildlife Wiki Alliance. The founder of the British Wildlife Wiki created it, and its purpose is to find new members for its wikis, keep them up-to-date, and patro…

Source material, anyone?

There's a thing on everybody's mind recently. The "other" wiki. But I want us to get away from all that, and focus on the wiki at hand. Like REFERENCES!

I haven't told you all this, but I've been receiving none other than REPTILES Magazine every month since 2008. That's about 50 issues (and three annuals).

Plus, I have dozens of reptile-related books, written by professionals like the Bartlett pair and Philippe de Vosjoli himself.

I figure this all can be used as valid source material. So if you need sources for something, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find some :)

We Need to Work Together, Reptile Fanatics!

Right now, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. There are two Reptiles Wikis. I'm an administrator from the original one, but I've recently began editing in an attempt to merge the two wikis.

Unfortunately, some people don't want to abandon their wikis. Well, I'm here to tell you that nobody will be abandoning their wikis! I just want the two to be merged. That's all!

There will be no Amphibian pages here, since that does not fit the wiki, but all the rest of the great articles from the original Reptiles Wiki could be moved here!

Thesaurus Rex is awesome with formatting and CSS, so it would be very wise to make him a Bureaucrat. Working together, we could be amazing!

To Komodo cobra: Please don't just shrug this off. There is some great potential here f…

Mann your battle stations!

Okay everyone, I'm really sorry about the long absence from me leading to the wiki going into a low-power state. Most of it is my fault, really. Real life issues, y'know? No, no excuses. Anyway, because I was gone for so long, we're starting to lag behind and go unnoticed. This needs to stop here and now. Now, Reptipedia has been revived before, and it can be revived again. And the first time it was, it turned into what you see here. Just think of what it could be now. Starting today, I'm going to re-learn how to run the wiki and do a big overhaul on Reptipedia. I can not do this alone. I'm going to need your help. I've brought up some objectives:

- Get more reptile people into the wiki. Experienced reptile people. Originally the idea was to g…

Securing a foothold for Reptipedia

Hello everyone,

So just a few days ago I decided to stay on Wikia. Right now I'm customizing Oasis' .css to make it look cool. But very soon I'm going to have to be doing alot more than just editing the layout. We're going to have to make some big changes if we are to be seen as a reliable wiki. First off, we're just starting out, so we'll start with some basic changes to the main page to help get things done easier and stay in touch on a rising wiki. Here's a list of things I plan to add/change to Wikia soon.

Main Page:

  • Community Forum box. Similar to the one at Wikia's Community Central, the community can discuss things related to the wiki, such as new ideas, suggestions, problems, etc. This will take up the same space as the poll (we don't…

New changes

Hey all,

As you'll have figured out by now, I'm an admin! Which means toying with things...

What I mean is the look. Not the new look or anything (Monaco RIP...see here for much ranting of the new look), but the background. Green's fine, but doesn't specifically emphasize "reptile."

So, I suggest this as the new background. Watcha think?

As soon as I get a thumbs up I'll add it.

Moving Reptipedia

Hi all, I'm pretty sure most of you have seen the new look. Unfortunately, I simply can't work with it, and despite asking the Wikia staff to make the new look optional, Monaco will be removed in November. And I'm sure 95% of all Wikia users hate the new look. Which is why I am moving. The site will be moved to Wikkii, a free wiki hosting site.

The progress will be posted here.

  • October 28 - Added sitenotice. If Wikia takes it down, just think of that as an example of their tyranny :D
  • November 03 - Wikia has no longer supported Monaco for their site. RIP.
  • November 04 - Downloaded the database. I'm almost done guys, but I'm going to need your help a bit on this part. I want this wiki to be for both reptiles AND amphibians, including feeder anima…
